Adding an Item

To add an item in ConsignCloud, go to the items table and click the "+" button or "New Item" in the top right corner.

This will open the Item Creation Table, which has multiple fields that you will need to fill in. These include the account that the item will be assigned to, as well as Category, Item Type, Quantity, etc. The only required field for all inventory types is the Price.

If your item is Consignment or Buy Outright, an Account is required, and items will not be saved unless an Account is applied.

Categories can be created directly from this table. Simply type in the category you need and select "+Create ---." Or select a category from the dropdown list of pre-created categories.

We do not suggest having too many categories, as it makes it harder to keep track of in your store. If you want two similar but different categories in your store, it may be best to keep those as item types.

Item Types are a subcategories. For instance, the category may be Jewelry, but the Item Type would be "Earrings." This distinction is important for things like titles and labels, and will help you create distinctions between items in the same category.

To add an unlimited quantity to an item, simply leave the quantity field blank. This will tell the system not to attach any quantity to it. For instance, if you sell lollipops at the counter, you can leave the quantity field blank, since you won't track the lollipop inventory. However, if you have a limited inventory of an item (i.e. you have three pairs of the same shoes) you can add "3" as the quantity, and when all three pairs are sold, the item will be marked "out of stock," and you won't be able to sell any more of them. Leaving this field blank or null is different from zero. Changing the quantity to "0" will leave the item unstocked.

SKUs are normally autogenerated by the ConsignCloud software, starting from the number 000001, and working up from there. However, SKUs can also be manually assigned by whoever is adding the item.
