Overview of PayPal Payouts

PayPal offers a mass payouts service that allows a user with a business account to upload a spreadsheet of payment recipients, email address, and payment amounts to send digital payouts in bulk. Payment recipients (your consignors) receive an email with a notification that a user is sending them funds, after which they have 30 days to claim their payment before it is returned to the sender (you).

NOTE: If your consignors have not previously created a PayPal account, they will be prompted to create an account and login prior to accepting any funds.

PayPal charges a 2% processing fee per transaction, with a maximum fee of $1 per transaction for US payment currency. For the most up-to-date information on their fees, check out the PayPal fees page below.

A recipient told me they did not receive their payout. What can I do?

Incorrect email address

If the recipient’s email address was entered incorrectly you’ll need to resend their payment.

  1. Log in to your PayPal business account and make sure you have enough money in your PayPal balance to cover the total cost of the payout.

  2. Create a CSV or TXT file with the recipient’s corrected email address, payment amount, and currency type.

  3. Upload and submit your payout.

NOTE: PayPal is unable to reverse funds for any incorrect recipient email addresses or mobile phone numbers included in an uploaded file, unless the money is unclaimed after 30 days.

Unconfirmed email address

Your recipient cannot receive a payment with an unconfirmed email address. You’ll need to ask the recipient to confirm their email address with PayPal. Once they're confirmed, the payment should appear in their PayPal account in a few minutes.

Recipient did not receive the email notifying them of the payment

If you suspect the email may have been redirected to a recipient’s spam folder, ask your recipient to log in to their PayPal account to view the payment.

How do I cancel or reverse an individual payment in a payout?

PayPal is unable to reverse funds for any incorrect recipient email addresses, mobile phone numbers, or PayPal IDs included in an uploaded file, unless the money is unclaimed after 30 days.

What happens if my recipient doesn't claim their money?

If money is not claimed within 30 days, PayPal will return the money to your PayPal account. Go to your transaction history to view any unclaimed payments.

What is my PayPal Payout Reference ID?

If you open the spreadsheet ConsignCloud generates for your PayPal Payout, you may notice the Payout Number column. This column will be mapped onto the Reference ID field for your PayPal payout. The first part of the ID is the ConsignCloud Account Number for the recipient of the payment. The second part is simply the numerical payout (Payout #1, Payout #2, Payout #3, etc). See the screenshots below for more detail.
